receptors

I own a MRS Spider year 2000 with 150,000 km and want to sell it on the net and one of the interested people mentioned if I have took out the receptors.

A warning light came up recently in my car and the mechanic said the reason is the faulty receptors and they need to be changed.

Is it really necessary? Or can I drive without them. After taking them out is it enough to close the holes with plugs or do I have to do more?

Can anyone give me some info on this.
