Hi, the last couple of days it's become very difficult to select gears when cold (seems fine after a few miles). Haven't had a problem getting 1st, but when on the move very difficult to change up/down until warm. Thought maybe a clutch issue but it doesn't grind the gears, just wont go in, so thought maybe a linkage fault, but why would this be fine after a few miles?

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

It could indeed be any of the 3 things you mention.

My first checks would be, the gearbox oil, when was it last changed, has it been topped up,  any signs of an oil leak on the underside ?

An oil leak on the bottom of the clutch cover /bellhousing could suggest oil contamination of the clutch which can cause such problems.

Gear linkage, have you checked both ends of the cables to see they are free to move, though as you say, if a problem there would expect it all the time.

Whats the history of the car, new to you, mileage, last serviced, any recent works in that area, problem just started suddenly or been building up slowly ?
