Toyota yaris 1999-2005

Hi

I'm looking at building a Toyota yaris for racing has to be from 1999-2005 models and has to be 1 litre. I know from 1999-2001 the engines were Japanese then from 2001 onwards were French I believe? Heard and read lots of things suggesting that a French engined car would be better and have slightly better performance? Can anyone confirm if this is correct? And what are the differences in the engines?

Appreciate it if anyone can help.

Cheers.

Hi Ryan

Looking at Wiki the only 1ltr used in the mk1 was the French engine 1sz-fe . It seems the car that had both the Jap & French was the 1.3 version, this is how it looks to be on Wiki.

In the ling term I cant see there been much difference in the engines anyway, I bought a 1.3 2sz-fe for racing but at the time I didn't know there was 2 engine so I wished I had the Jap(2nz-fe)  one as I could have got better cams or the supercharger for it. Some how I ended up with a French one as the season was fast approaching.

I have focused on saving weight better tyres and wheels and suspension and brakes and you know what I'm as happy with my little Fenchie as I can be, its so much fun handles like a go-kart and I have taken time off faster cars round tracks such as Celica's / gt86's to name but a few as its not all about the power just carry the speed through the corners.

Just make sure you get a well kept French or Jap one as I have just had to repair my gearbox as age has took its toll on the poor thing.
