I think it may be possible to convert T27 to have a standard parking brake.

I had an a thought. When the EPB fault was cleared, even though the fault still existed, the car could be converted to a conventional. manual parking brake, using a hand or foot control. The only problem is where to locate this control.

Another thing I noticed regarding the EPB is there are two versions - the earlier semi-automatic system that releases when moving off, the later version that also applies when the ignition/engine is turned off. The later version has a service mode to disable the auto apply, with a dash indicator. When I had my EPB problem, I checked on eBay and all the EPB units were later versions. I wonder if a later EPB could be fitted to earlier car (without working the auto apply).

It is only an idea and my EPB system is working well after that minor scare. At least Toyota's EPB is not the worst out there.

That is interesting Konrad, the EPB put me off getting the model with EPB even though the T27 is a bit more powerful and economical than the T25. What other cars have a bad auto handbrake reputation?

Konrad can you return the EPB to seller as (Ahem)faulty if you try it and if the later EPB doesn't work?

You cant replace the EPB with a used one. When fitted to car and initialized it is locked to the specific car.

Hi Frank,

I think it depends on who you are dealing with. At least I did not have to worry about buying a replacement unit.

Morten,

If what you say is true, then those sellers of secondhand EPB units should not be selling them. I know you do diagnostics and have programmed stuff, so I assume you have tried or come across this problem.
