The 5th gear pops out under any slight pressure of the accelerator.is this a replacement box or can the 5th gear be bought and put in by mechanic?not looking to spend too much on her she will be going soon as it's starting to cost me money.

Far as I can remember from reading on the forum, it is a repair job. Not replacement box. £200 ish I think I read somewhere.  Don't quote me on that tho.

Don't think driver error is the case. Have heard of same problem before a few times. It's maybe common enough thing. I think Toyota's made up to the birth of the d4d type cars were pretty bulletproof. From D4D type on maybe not. But maybe very young cars r even more troublesome. DPF's etc. So maybe the devil u no, etc etc.

Bought a 2nd hand box and hoping for the best with this.the box has a red silicone type gasket on it do you think it's had an overhaul or do the boxes come like that?I'm going to change the fluid for genuine Toyota fluid do the drain and filler plugs need new crush washers?
