Help needed - Engine management light on

Hello,

I have just bought a 2011 Avensis diesel estate, unfortunately I purchased it with the engine management light on (amber), a message which says check park brake system, and another which says VSC, there is an amber triangle light and another light which looks like an anti skid warning, which is also amber.

 

I called the AA, who werent much good, they sent a sub contractor out, who used a cheap looking code reader which gave a code of P1601. He didn't know what it was for, so I had the car checked out by an auto-electrican I know, who said the lights are caused by either two things, the injector system, or the ECU.

I have asked him to let me know what the codes are so I will confirm later, but I think (im pretty sure) its the following: eeprom error injector correction value dpf thermal degradation record

 

He also said it could be that injectors have not been coded properly, or there is an issue with the ECU.

 

Unfortunately I don't have any history with the car, I do have a stamped service book, but I have no idea what could have been done to it beforehand. 

What could it be/shall I do? I don't want to take it to a specialist to find out its something else, or replace injectors when I don't need to. The car runs and drives fine, it doesnt smoke or anything at all. It may sound a bit rattly but it sounds fine.

I think you should see a decent diagnostics person, and get a full readout of everything stored in the cars ECU's. That way you will know what needs doing. Then get the car serviced eliminating as much possible causes of the warnings.

Since the car came from an auction, did it come with the owners manual and spare keys? Don't forget the locking wheel nut key!

These are the least of your problems until the faults are sorted. This is the risk of buying at auction!

P1601 Is set when one or more Injector compensation code are not set into the engine ECU but it does not trigger an EML lamp so there must be another DTC triggering the warning lights.

I have the spare key and the service book.

 

I should be getting an email today with the codes and I shall post them up.

I also rang the garage that last serviced it, and the chap on the phone said they changed Injector no 4, and recommended to the customer that injector no 3 needed doing.

Btw if you sign up to MyToyota then if the car has had any work done in a Toyota dealer it should be visible to you.

Update: 

Problem sorted. It turns out the previous garage replaced an injector but did not code them up properly. Garage did this, took it on a test run and light has now gone.
