Hi my car when at a junction starts to shake and stalls. It also over heats. Any suggestions?

Probably be useful to know whether the car is petrol or diesel, manual or auto.

It is 16 years old. There could be a variety of things from a silted up radiator to lack of maintenance.

When was it last serviced? What was changed?  Have you checked the plugs?

It the radiator leaking coolant? Does the fan work?

Check the fan works when it overheats next.. You will hear it - in front of the radiator...It is electric.Often the connectors are corroded.. a clean will resolve that. Or the sensor which controls it has failed.

The water pump is essential to keep engine cool. Check that the drive belt is actually moving it - and not slipping - the pump may have seized or have lost its vanes..

If you have leaks from the radiator and the water is not kept under pressure, you will get overheating. If the raditor is blocked or the cooling fins are corroded, that will not help.

If the plugs are the wrong type or worn, that will not help.

If you are not knowledgeable, get someone who is to help. Diagnosis from a distance is difficult..
