Clutch problems.

Hi guys think my clutch is on its way out on my 2002 1.6 vvti T spirit hatchback. Starting slipping yesterday and has never been changed, 107000 miles on clock.

Garage has quoted me around £400 for clutch and fitting.

Is this a good price as I've seen clutch kits for around £80- £100, and don't know how much of a tough job it is to change the clutch over on this car?

Also which clutch kits  shouldn't I get? Not sure which ones are the better ones?

I don't think £400 is all that bad of a job. I had the clutch replaced on a Peugeot 107 (£250) and Peugeot 3008 (£650!), so £400 for this car seems OK. 

As for kits, I've bought a Blue Print clutch for my 1.3 Corolla, as Blue Print seem to be alright. You could also go for LUK, or Aisin. Both of them seem to be recommended brands.

Yeah, Toyota wanted £900 to do my clutch and the local franchise garage wanted £700!!

As above plus Sachs clutches, though more expensive than around £100 for those other brands; ( beware eBay cheap deals for Brand names as there are lots of poor copies out there; surprised me to know they were forging them !)

£400 sounds about average, though if you go to a Car Gearbox and Clutch  specialist garage you might get a better price.

Diy is possible, though you might have to spend on extra tools, depending on what you have now.

I just had mine changed about 3weeks ago on 02 T sport. Got the clutch from CG Motorsport a stage 1 for £200 in Leeds. A cash deal. My mechanic friend fitted for £200 mates rates. 

So I'd say £400 all in is a good price. If you trust them just go for it👌
