Erratic clutch

Would greatly appreciate your thoughts.  I have a 2009 1.8 vvti avensis tourer. Great car but one niggling irritation,  when pulling away in first gear there is no defined biting point on the clutch and sometimes the car just over revs. almost like the car has a mind of its own! I have been driving for 25 years and never encountered this. Car has only done 56000 miles, Toyota say it's an anti stall sensor which is normal? Does not feel normal, any ideas gratefully received...

Do you think the clutch Could be worn?

That's initially what I thought. When I first bought the car a year ago ( and 16000 miles back) Toyota replaced the diff and said that they had checked the clutch at the same time... It's no different now to how it was and with no handbrake I have no idea how to test the clutch.

Hi James. Can I assume you have the Mk3 T27 Valvematic 2ZR-FAE with six speed manual gearbox? If so read the following, which contain my experience:

My engine will speed up when there is a load, like letting the clutch bite then pressing the pedal. Since the clutch replacement, the clutch feel improved, with a light consistent pedal.

I think I have given enough info. Have I missed anything?

Hi Konrad;

Thank you; very helpful. Its  sounds very similar to your experience. I will have a chat with my local garage and see about getting the clutch done.

Thanks again

James
