Buying RAV4 mk3 - head gasket advice

Hello Everyone,

Just joined the forum,  not sure if im posting in the correct categories.

Anyway,  I am looking to buy a RAV4 mk3 2.2D-cat SR  year 2010 to 2012

While looking online I have found these have a issue with the head gasket which requires engine replacement, is this correct?
If so , what are the signs I need to look for when buying one of these?
And will Toyota help with cost, considering it might be a 2010 7 year old car?

I appreciate any help, as I dont want to make a expensive mistake... Many thanks in advance

The head gasket issues could affect Rav4's built up to December 2008 - so some 2009 registered vehicles may be affected. See:

Toyota covered the issue on a case-by-case basis for a period of 7 years or 111,846 miles, whichever occurred first. So all affected Rav4's will either have had remedial action or will now be beyond the coverage that Toyota provided.

I'm in the same situation, looking to buy a rav of the same age but came across stories of the head gasket issue. Is there any way to check if an older car has had the remedial work done?

150 or 180........now there's a question!

A Toyota dealer should be able to check the vehicle's service and warranty history.
