Hi All

I have a Avensis 2010 T27 TR 1.8 petrol model with extended warranty, the car has done about 37,000 thousand miles

Had a slight noise on the clutch so took it into Toyota local dealership . They changed this under warranty on the 22/12/2016

As soon as I drove the car out of Toyota and went up though the gears their was no problem then gearing down from 4th to 3rd approaching traffic lights the 3rd gear was no longer smooth but felt like it was catching/dragging/notchy now up until I had the clutch fitted the gear change was very smooth in all gears. . The problem was it was intermittent it changed up and down smoothly 85% of the time. So took it back and they altered the gear linkage, the problem was  still there, Its been back and forth since December, they have fitted a new gear linkage now, But still the same.the easy way to see it is sitting in the car engine on and go though the gears by engaging clutch the disengaging then engaging  while going though the gears. after a few gear changes it locks me out of 3rd.

Has anybody out their got the same model car? if so could you go though the gear box the same as in the video and see if your does the same please

Cheers Gary

What do you want to know about the gear change of your car?

When they changed the clutch, I presume the slave bearing was changed - probably the cause of the noise!? Then the clutch hydraulic system should be bled.

I have T27 1.8 manual and the clutch was recently changed. Apart from the fitter not connecting a gear change sensor properly (sorted), the gear change has been fine.
My post -

Here is a test. Quickly pump the clutch pedal then drive the car to see if the gear change improves. If it does improve, get the system bled. Also the garage should have topped up the gearbox fluid!

They changed the fluid, if you sit in your stationary with engine running and go though box clutch in then out doe it block any gears like mine in 3rd

No, my gears are fine. The trickiest is reverse as expected, and all the other gears are fine, shifting up and down. One time in both my T27 and in my old T22 I had to modify my gear changing style a little. That is to push slightly away for 1st and 2nd, let the spring action centre the lever for 3rd and 4th, then pull over for 5th and 6th - my old car 5th only. Give that a try.

if still having problems then the gearbox may need investigating.

I think my car has the same gear assembly as yours, my car is a December 2016 1.6 Business edition+ diesel saloon.

The selector is shocking, car went in at 8,000 miles dealer had it for four days, changed part of the selector, still no better, they say it is fine, I disagree !

I don't know if the BMW diesels use the same gearbox as the older 1AD/2AD engines but the manual 6-speed used by those is well known to be obstructive into 1st & particularly 2nd when cold. Usually improves once the gearbox has warmed up but it's never going to be a particularly slick gearbox though.

It was perfect up until they changed the clutch. Odd thing is they dont go into the gearbox to change it

'fraid not. Been there, done that (I used Fuchs Titan Race SRG 75 Full Ester Synthetic Racing Gear Oil) - it improves things slightly but doesn't solve it.

Done the test after speaking with Gary. Mine does the same, but it does not cause a missed gear change. It is the second to third gear change that is the issue. Getting that middle gate between first and fifth can be a little hit and miss. I never noticed this problem when actually driving though.

I have always preferred the old five speed with reverse where sixth is now. The pattern is a little wider so gears 1/2, 3/4 and 5 are well spaced apart. The gear selector gate has to narrow to accommodate the extra gear and re-positioned reverse gear.

As I said before, I am not have trouble with the gears on the road. I will keep an eye, and Gary, report back if  it get worse.
