Manual automated transmission. Worst transmission to have in any brand of car. I searched the 'net and found these from this very forum -

and from Honest John - https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=97184

Not transmission is perfect, but multi-mode seems to be the worst because of how complex it is to fix and set up. You need to see a transmission specialist, somebody exeroienced with Toyota multi-mode in your country.

I only have read about the multimode transmission and what is function is. Basically the car has a normal clutch and gearbox, and a computer controlled actuator controls the clutch and gear changes. Here are some info links -

If the mechanic told you he needs a program to fix the transmission, Techstream is the only one I can think of. I don't really know that much, but the info I linked to you should help.
