Rusty seat bolts

Hello fellow Aygoers..

I have covered  2200 miles in my Aygo now since I bought it, so decided to give it a once over inspection to see how it was fairing up..

Everything was looking good, but I spotted this rust on the  back seat bolt (drivers side) I checked the passenger seat and it was fine.

1. Has anyone else had this?

2. Any ideas what might have caused it? possibly water rain water got in?

3. my car is in for a service next week,  should I get them to replace the bolt? / check it out?

any thoughts/ advice appreciated I know this is a pretty minimal issue.

I'd certainly be getting it "sorted"...and I'd want to know just how far it's gone.

It maybe just some surface rust and look worse than it actually is, but I'd take the bolt out and check ...clean it...and then sort it with some rust preventer/paint.

Hi Get a quote from them before you let them lose on loose on what appears to be something minor.

lf you decide to remove the bolt yourself, clean underneath where it goes through the body.

And spray it with WD or similar, if it snaps then you will need it drilling out and retapping.

I did this once whilst removing the handbrake tunnel, a pain.

Bet it's just outside of its 3 year rust warranty, which would be a shame.

As Kenny says, you could remove it yourself, but I would use PlusGas and not WD40. I've found PlusGas to be superior to WD40.

Cheer guys,

I will call my Toyota Dealership and ask them to look at it whilst the cars in. The car is all covered by warranty so hopefully there should be no cost to me.

Is it not covered by 5 yr warranty?

Hopefully someone just spilled some drink in there!! Whip the bolt quick clean up and stick it back in.

Yeah, sometimes we expect the worst lol. Does look like that area can easily collect anything spilt, with no ability for fluids to run off.

You'll be fine

gutterless cars suffer from rain water dripping into the car when the doors are opened

and i bet you dont use the passenger door very often .if the floor is dry in the vacinity

of the seat mounting then i wouldn't worry about it.
