Heater control mods

Hello, has anyone done this - i have a 58 plate avensis with the digital heater control panel which i hate with a vengeance!

I note I can by the more traditional knobs type one for a few quid on eBay with the same looking 20 pin connector but a different 4 or 6 pin connector than each other. Has anyone put the manual panel in, in place of the digital one please? My guess is they're compatible with maybe the 4 or 6 pin connector doing lights and maybe an ext temp sensor so not having that in circuit may not matter?

UPDATE - having removed the radio and air control panel, to a) try the swap of digital panel and b) replace the radio, I tried swapping the heater panel as above and it didn't work at all. Fair enough, I'l eBay it. However, I've blown a fuse in so doing which I'll post a plea for help seperately. Thanks for reading!
