Hi all,

Recently got my second Celica. First was an ST185 GT4 and I loved that car - except the fuel consumption which was insane! Just got my hands on a 2000 VVTi that's in need of a bit of work to get 100% - burning oil (Piston rings I'm hoping), knackered power steering.

Hi Lee,

Great cars ( I had one for 2 years and loved it)...however I think you have a common problem.

I'm guessing you have the 140.?..pre-face lift (it changed in 2002)...it's a known design fault on these engines (1ZZ-FE) and the root cause is usually poor maintenance in not following the recommended oil change regime...these Celicas' need their oil changed regularly.

I did mine every 5-7k miles even though it was a 2003 facelift model and oil burning was not such a common problem.

Mine never used a drop between changes.

The 190 models never suffered with oil burning.

 

You may have to live with it or swap the engine (but if you did that then there is no point in buying the same engine again...go for a facelift at least)
