Avensis T3 oil on spark plugs

Hi all,

I am new to the forum today, I have recently purchased an Avensis T3 03 plate and I'm having an issue with it, I am getting oil on the s' plugs causing a miss-fire, replaced the plugs and gave it a full service, after about 50 miles the issue returns, when I clean the plugs it drives like a dream, does anyone have any experience with this, or knowledge you're willing to share.

Thanks in advance.

Billy.

Hi. When you say oil on the spark plugs, do you mean the electrodes are wet with oil? A photo will be helpful but read the following link - http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/spark-plug-fault-diagnosis/ or search spark plug fouling.

A high mileage engine will have worn valve stem seals, other seals and gaskets or piston rings, letting oil get into the combustion chamber. Also the crank case ventilation may need cleaning to help reduce blow by. A compression test may reveal the condition of the piston rings.

This is the risk of getting a car this age. Unless it has done low mileage for the age and has history showing regular servicing (did two oil changes a year on my old Mk1 '98), it is hard to know the engine condition. Receipts are helpful.

I have never had plug fouling, so this is general advice.

Can I add that Toyota 1.6 and 1.8 'ZZ' engines were notoriously known for high oil consumption early in their life. This did not happen to all ZZ engines and Toyota made changes which fixed the problem by mid 2005. All engines from then until end of production were fine. The 'fix' was a replacement 'short' engine (the engine block and pistons), a slightly deeper sump and modified dipstick. there are more details - just search Toyota 1.8 1ZZ oil burning. The 2 litre direct injection engine did not suffer this being a different design. You did not say what engine size you have.

Hi Konrad,

The oil is on the plugs and thread, will share pictures tomorrow as I'm cleaning them again, thanks for the advice.
