Full vs. Full Plus Service

It's that time of year again...

Any reason to go for the Full Plus, or stick with Full service?

My car will be 2 years old in 1 month, so this is the first Full service it has had, and I'm not sure why the Full Plus would be optional if it was required...

As far as I'm aware the Full+ service is required when additional work is needed as part of the service regime - eg. spark plug change, coolant change (first due at 10 years/100,000 miles), etc.

For your 2 year/20,000 mile service the Full service is due.

arent the spark plugs Iridium and arnt they around the 60 -70 k replacement ?

maybe it would be cheaper to get the basic service and add on either an air / pollen filer, brake fluid change or Wiper Blades as needed, be much cheaper. that is what i did with my old honda jazz but i did the service every 12 months but my milage was around 8000 per year

On a Petrol Yaris ( inc Hybrid ) the correct schedule is:

Int 10k/1yr

Full 20k/2yr

Int 30k/3yr

Full 40K/4yr

Int 50k/5yr

Full+ 60k/yr

then repeat

if you could get away with just having the int service as the full is not really worth the extra money

is the 60k service the spark plugs thats why it is the most expensive ?

Toyota's service schedule is as per Devon Aygo's post above. Not  adhering to the service schedule by having an intermediate done in place of the Full service (and that is if the Toyota dealer would agree to this), could affect the new car warranty, as the car won't been serviced to manufacturer requirements.

At the end of the day, when one buys a new or nearly new car, one should make oneself aware of the service requirements before purchase, and not try to skimp on servicing after purchase.

Yes the Full+ would include spark plug replacement - https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/service-mot-maintenance/servicing.json#/ajax/%2Fowners%2Fservice-mot-maintenance%2Ffullplus-service-details.json

honda was only too pleased to do the 12 service every year and no damage to the warranty and when i trade in cars they never bother with all the invoices and it has had its book stamped and for the low trade in prices they give out thay cant have it both ways

i always have my cars looked after and an anual service is just a oil and filer change with maybe air /pollen and brake pad/shoes when needed, the oil change is the most important and i only do 8k per year at the moment

what does the full service include on top of the intermediate service apart from probably air and pollen filter and brake fluid  bit much for £130 extra

thanks for the print out, the majority of the full is for diesel and hybrid check labour

and if toyota dont want my business honda probably do

im just saying that the car gets the important basics every year with the stamp in the book and anything extra it needs it gets as i only do 8000 miles per year and i dont need any of the extras eg Battery in remote etc it includes cabin filter but not air filter all of which i can add on to the intermediate and just pay for the extras on top

with the trade in prices you get these days it is not worth going mad on the extras that are not important  but instead spend it on oil, filters, plugs and brakes

The Full also includes a brake fluid change and the majority of the service applies to all models regardless of drive train.

We do less than 10,000 per year in each of our cars, and don't skimp on servicing - they get serviced  according to the manufacturer's schedules.

well how come after 5 years you can get seilver and gold services for £99 and £180, that is why you get a 5 year warranty to reel you in and after that the price drops so they get to keep your custom, the same with every manufacturer including honda and especially kia 7 year warranty, they always try to wiggle out of warranty work too (kia)

anyway i have my first service in october (£165) and i will check the filters to see if they need a change before it take it in and will add them on and next year i will see what they say

You've answered your own question.

Essential Care is there to encourage owners to continue using their Toyota dealer when the new car warranty has expired - rather than using independents.

Most manufacturers have similar schemes for out of warranty vehicles - Ford, VAG, Hyundai, PSA, etc - but some are cheaper than others.

It isn't rocket science.

You can get a complete genuine service kit from your local Toyota parts dept which is competitively priced. There is a choice of having sparks plugs or pollen filters. Get a VAT registered garage to service your car as an alternative.

thanks for that, i have no problem with servicing the car at the main dealers but when they fill the full service with pointless junk like Battery for the keyfob instead of air filer standard replace item not extra £45 on top of £295 when you can get an intermediate for £165 and add a filter for £45 and even brake fluid change for £45 and still be £40 cheaper than the full one and £85 cheaper if no filter is not needed

I get my cars serviced per schedule (thanks for the clarification on service schedule!).

I view the service schedule in part as insurance for the warranty. They can't argue it wasn't maintained properly should it ever be required.

As for the cost, I agree with Frosty that the cost should be factored as part of the purchase. Given the zero cost road-tax, that alone is offsetting the servicing costs.

Car insurance is the big rip-off. :2guns:Year 2 insurance cost me 22% more than Year 1 (no claims, etc..). I'll be livid if it costs any more this time!
