Carina E Oil Cooler.

I've got some oil seepage from it and wonder if anyone else has had to have one repaired/replaced and what it cost.

Can the car run ok without one? it's the first car I've owned a car with one (the previous owner towed a caravan so maybe it was fitted for the extra engine load).

Cheers, Dave.

Is the leak from the cooler or just the hoses?

Given the setup I'd think that you could fit a salvaged cooler from virtualy any vehicle onto the Carina - You'd just need to modify the support bracket.

Thanks Gazza.

I've cleaned the unit up with Jizer so after a couple of runs I should be able to tell better where it's coming from.

It cant be a bad leak as there are no drips underneath and it must have been doing it for some time judging by the amount of oily grime in the vicinity (particularly the front of the coolant radiator).

What do you reckon on the idea of having no oil cooler in situ ?

Well the oil temp will certainly be higher - even if the overall engine temp is kept within the normal range by the coolant. This will lead to increased engine wear and reduced service intervals.

I'd wouldn't risk it myself.
