If a car is cat c or D where does it show on the V5C car registration document. I cannot see any designated box on the document and the GOV website although describing cats a b C D does not say where this shows on a registration document. Any ideas?

As far as I'm aware Cat C or D vehicles had to undergo a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC), and if a VIC had been carried out, it was shown in the special notes section of the V5C (registration document).

The Vehicle Identity Check scheme was withdrawn in October 2015, so after this date VIC's are no longer carried out or shown.

I think an HPI check should determine whether a vehicle is Cat C or D.

It was only cat C which required a VIC (unless the rules changed since about 2008) and it was recorded on the V5.  There was no mention of cat D on the V5, but it should show up on an hpi check as Frosty says.
