Hi,

Have a 2005 Avensis 2.2 diesel. Has done 70,000 miles. Regularly servised every year. New oil and filter at least.

Only do about 3,000 miles a year. Some towing a caravan.

Have noticed in the past year, some difficulty starting first thing. Runs beautifully but smokes on hard excelleration.

My son says I dont drive it enough, and "like an old woman". I am rather a sedate driver.

Have noticed this year particularly some coolant loss, not a lot, and using oil. Proberly about half a litre since the last service 10 months ago.

Have read up on HG problems with this type of engine and have terrified myself!

What are the chances that I have this issue? I really like this car, comfortable and roomy.

I've really looked after this car and it's in pristine condition.

What would be my options or next step please? I do not have the funds to repair it. Can I keep driving it in the mean time?

Oh by the way, I cleaned the EGR valve and it's housing about 6 months ago. It was so clogged that 2 of the ports were fully clogged.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Peter
