Yaris Or Peugeot S16?

Hello

I was talking to a friend of mine who owns a Yaris and he was telling me that despite the Peugeot 206 S16 havng a bigger engine, more power and torque, the Yaris is very close if not equal, in performance.

The Peugeot has 138 hp, 16 valves, 19 kg of torque and makes 0-100 in 8.6 seconds, and the quarter mile in 16.5 secs...

The Yaris 1.5 has 108 hp, 16 valves, VVT-i, 14 kg of torque and makes 0-100 in 9 seconds, and the quarter mile in 16.8 secs...

Is this true? I mean, will a Yaris perform just like a Peugeot sport car? My guess is that the key is the wight, the Yaris weights around 880 kg while the Peugeot weights around 1100 kg. But still, I mean, theres much more torque and aorund 30 hp's more on that car, sounds like a faster car.

Enlight me please!

Japanese cars are more reliable, peug are good for the first couple of years.

So i would go jap. hehehe.

I think a lot of T-sport yaris drivers would tell you the same here. shame i dont own one.

yup power to weight is good but more importantly in real world conditions i.e on real roads not test conditions the T-Sport is a quick little car due too fantistic engine response superb brakes and nimble handling.

Id go Jap if i was him but i would say that wouldnt I? :P

Ok guys, I know that its a fast little car, etc etc, but Im not asking that, all i need to know is a comparison between these 2 cars... please?

well you already seem to know the figures on paper, i gave you some insight on the T-Sport, and you wont find many people who have driven both properly.

so all i can say is get some test drives booked and then decide

Before making that 'tough' decision I suggest you read through all the reviews for both cars here:

carsurvey.org

As far as performance goes the two cars are almost identical.

Oh and it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it... ;)

p.s: Peugeot makes lame cars. :!Removed!:

Well I own a Yaris and my partner owns a 1.6 206 Roland Garros....

I'm insured on both cars!

The Yaris is much nicer to drive, it just feels more responsive, even though mines just the 1.3 and his is a 1.6. I just prefer the Yaris!

Go for the Japs, not the Frogs! :D

First off, saying that japanese cars are more reliable than french cars is a nonsense - there are plenty of french cars that don't break down the way you all like to think, and I can find several examples of toyotas on this site that have been nightmares.

the 106 will have more 'pull' m8, the yaris will feel completely different..

what's the point in us telling you which one to get? go test drive both and make up your own mind.

The ergonomics of the yaris is far better than any car I have been in. For example the new VW golf seems to have half the amount of space to store stuff in than the yaris. It should be alot better, for example part of the airbag goes into the glovebox :S

So jap all the way for me...

pug is french, made of playdough and falls to bits.........and its dog ugly

yes the yaris has its bad points but the pug has more bad things than the yaris!

so buy the yaris!

......

come on you asked what to get in a YARIS forum! whats ppl gonna say!

If you ask in a pug forum they'd tell u to get a pug .. so there'll be a tug-o-war session going along here.

So best thing to do is go test drive them both and you'll have a good idea which one u want.

But as for me .. i'd stick with the Yaris thx!

Peugeot = Very common and a bit boring!

Yaris = More select great to drive and has all the toys.

Go for a test drive in both and you will answer your own question.

Never fall to bits!

The T-Sport is made in Japan!!! The French ones are made really well, don't worry...

Yeah, I know. Just all that chat about French built cars, y'know?

Only bits that fell off were the rear lights when a Kawasaki tried to drive through me.

Great gallery of your T-Sport by the way. Impressive. Want one!

Hi all,

I may not have a Toyota, but I came across this thread on Google while looking for parts for my car. And notice a japanese car comparing against a european. Only not happy to see my car being looked down on and portraided in an incorrect way. Im also going on bhp as you have given mine a incredible decrease.

My S16 is a 2.0i DOHC 16v engine, 155bhp 1996 (N)

I have a green induction kit, samco hoses, pugsport grp A downpipe, grp N de-cat & back box (straight through), and will soon have a performance manifold, Longmans performance head gasket, full engine re-build by J.Day engineering including AP Racing clutch, lightened and ballanced fly wheel, also polished and ported.

This is what power these things will give to my car - rounded 2 the nearest figure:

155 + Induction kit = 159

159 + Exhaust & Manifold = 173

173 + Gas flowed head = 190

190 + Lightened & Balanced = 195

195 + Polished & Ported = 200

I believe that to be a good some from those modifications. You also contridict urselves saying your japanese cars that are made in france are good? i know they are of japanese design, but still? peugeot craftsmen ship, aswell and computers, machines etc...

Peugeot engines are quicker than most, they can get 100bhp from a 1.3/1.4, 120bhp from a 1.6, 200 from a 2.0T 16v and 150 from a 8v (only turbos made), 167 from a 2.0. all apart from there turbos, they did no other boost on there cars as standard, all naturally aspirated. I can keep up with my friends nissan 200sx which he has just got back from norris designs with a re-coned import 60k engine, uprated wastegate, 15psi, k&n, exhaust, d/v etc... and my car has only got downpipe to back box and induction kit.

All im saying is dont be so harsh, check us pug's out if you got any worries.
