Keyless Entry

I'm hoping for some help. I went out to my Rav this am and keyless entry won't work. The fob (tried both) red light appears ok nothing happens. Used the key but this will not disable alarm. Basically I'm stuck, I had to walk to work. I have received fantastic help here once before, any ideas what to do?

In a previously owned Ford Focus - the alarm sounded when I opened the door after unlocking using the key, but it stopped sounding when I turned the ignition on.  I'm pretty sure I read of similar on an Avensis - worth a try.

As Alan says on my 2012 Avensis the alarm woud sound if you unlocked the previously alarmed vehicle with the key but it should silence when you start the engine. I would think that the RAV is the same.

Followed the procedure and ignored alarm. Started using fob override no problem. Neither fob works (is detected) which seems strange as both batteries are only 4 months old.

the keyless fobs on my Avensis ate batteries (incl. the one that I didn't actually use) so imo it's possible that at 4 months they need replaced.

With the keyless entry, the key is always 'looking for' the ignition, so it uses more Battery than a traditional push-button key.  IIRC it's supposed to enter a sleep mode if not used for a few days tho.

My car usually lives within 20 (& often 10) yards of where the spare key is kept - I suspect that the relative proximity may have been involved in why even the spare fob, whilst unused, also ran down fairly quickly.

Thanks for everyone's help, problem solved. Changed fob batteries and that was is. So lessons learnt.

If it happens again, use "hard" key and procedure for starting (fob over start button with brake pedal pressed) - alarm cancels on engine start.

My spare fob is kept in a safe place but probably far too close to car on driveway. Not changed Battery but new Battery kept with fob in a small pouch.

Four replacement batteries kept in vehicle and re-order when down to two.

Pay more for batteries, I suspect that they crashed due to poor quality / age, as well proximity to vehicle.

Thanks all once again.
