Siren Noise potentially turbo. Advice needed

Hello everyone. I have been searching the forum looking for specific help and guidance on an issue with my T180 Avensis.

I am new to car forums so I hope someone can help and I hope I am following all the correct rules and posting in the right place.

I recently bought my father in-laws avensis from him. Before I bought it my father in law told me that the turbo was making a siren noise (whine sound) when driving but it didn't effect the reliability or performance, the sound seems to lessen once warmed up.

Through my hours of searching I found a YouTube video which gives a perfect recording of the noise.

My avensis is always serviced and is a 2007 t180. It's on 80k.

To clarify the performance appears unaffected it's just annoying and sounds like a police siren whining

I see on the comments of the YouTube vid show it's the turbo. But I'm after advice on the following

Have any of you experienced this before and is there a known fix

Do any of you know if it's likely to cause damage of it goes unrepaired.

What's the estimated cost of a replacement turbo.

Thank you all for reading it and advising me.

Stephen

Ok, so not the same car, but that's exactly how my Nissan Almera 2.2 DCi used  to sound, and that was from brand new. I put it down to the design of the VVT turbo, which uses vanes, instead of a dump valve, to control the turbo speed.

Went on to do 100k miles, before I sold it in great condition. Turbo never gave me any problems throughout ownership. Did need a regular clean of the EGR valve to keep it running sweet though!

My 2011 2.2 also had a similar sound from new and it was just the same when I sold it six years later. Don't worry about it.
