Scratches!

Hi,

Just took ma dash apart to install cd player, and cause of the ackward way toyota have designed the two piece dash i have scratched the dash.

Now the toyota has this plasticy dash board and can mark easily.

Cant describe what happens to the dash when it gets a scratch but i am sure you know what i mean.

Now does anyone know how to get rid of them/ hide them / cover them up?

Cheers

Cheers, i'll try a solder gun, or heat a nail with the cigerette lighter or sommit,.

I let you know how it goes

I agree, the soldering iron will just melt straight through!

I dunno about this heat metal thing but at mo i would try is the lighter on nail method....

i thought the iron would be the same, i was jst gonna lightly melt the scratch and then get a flat piece of metal or sommit to push against the scratch to make sure it dont go lumpy, if you get wat i am saying

trust me the iron will go all the way, this is what I did instead of using the drill

is it really easy to melt i guess. So what do i do with the hot nail and how do i make it all smooth.

the nail has a finer tip than the iron, you need to be gengle with the nail

Plus the iron will be 200+ degrees

K, so i gentle melt the scratch with the nail, then what? how do i smooth it, what i use cause it wont be proper smooth just by using a nail.

Lol, do i use ma finger to smooth it?

cheers

yeah... mine was scratched really easily too while the ice installer tried to install the tweeters...

he said (and i quote) :

"WHAT DOES TOYOTA GOT AGAINST ME WITH THOSE CR***PY DASHBOARDS"?

mate id just leave the scratches unless your 100% sure its going to work and not end up worse than it already is, i agree the toyota interior is very easy to scratch as i have found out :crybaby:

you other option is to spay your console a differnt colour weill look cool (if done properly) and the scraches could be sorted.

but bear in mind theres nothing to stop the newly painted consle being scratched too

me personaly id just try to live with them

Ah don't worry,

I got plenty of scratches on my dash due to the previous dog owner. Doesn't bother me that much tbh. Could do with a new glove box as that is where most of em are...

Just live with it, it will stop bugging you after a week or so.

Alright, no i need to cover it up cause it looks sh it, i like the idea of changin the colour of the main dash. I seen someone else on the forum who done it and it looks smart.

How do you do it any one?

laters

Please! Do not try a hot nail, soldering iron or anything else! The results will look pants unless you are used to doing this stuff. I've done it on other hard plastics and it needs sanding. Not a good idea on a soft plastic like the dash.

Also you can't smooth it with anything. You won't have time and anyway, it's a textured surface, right?

been reading the threads

ive got a couple of scratches , just light surface ones but still visable

on lower glove box , a few in the spaces for cd s , there is a deeper one next to light dipper switch next to steering wheel .

I have to agree that a hot nail or iron would probably make it look worse . It would still be visable coz of the texture finish . If they are not deep then try to polish them out . Could try some shoe polish or something else like t cut . might just hide the marks enough . If its deep then at best u will loose some of the whiteness but still feel the mark .

thought this might be worth a try

:)

I have a couple of deeper scratches on my glove box..very annoying... that I'll get chipsaway to have a look at....

However I have found that with the little scratches that seem to have only lifted a few little bits of the plastic (like scuffs...) a lighter works wonders... all you do is hold it to the plastic for a few seconds and watch the strands melt back...

I have fixed a few in my car like this... but the bigger ones?.. leave to someone else!
