Battery Dead!

Had my first panic !

Last Sunday I was installing my obligatory England footy flags on my rear windows. Needed to use the fob to allow operation of the electric windows. I'm a bit of an 'Air Head' at times, I'd left the fob in the slot overnight with the electrics on. Cars on a private drive so no worries about security, they wouldn't have been able to nick anyway. In the morning I was to drive up to Birmingham for an important meeting. I goes out to car, wondering if I'd left me fob somewhere. Ah I thought when I saw it in the slot.

Good. Foot on brake, press Start and nothing! The electrics had completely gone. The car was up an elevated drive, which I normally reverse out of. There was no way I could get the car back down the drive to get it jump started.

Stood there, scratched my head and started to wonder where the 12v was. I had an idea, but hunted around under the bonnet first. Then I realised that it would be in the boot. Remembered a post about it. However the boot was locked! Couldn't get it opened.

Back in car, reading manual...

In there it points out that you can in fact open the boot from the inside by pulling a little lever. The lever position is covered by a plastic cover. Still couldn't open properly though.

I found out where the Battery was under a cover on the offside. Surprised at the size of it and no wonder it went flat in no time. I had the Battery exposed. Luckily the missus car was available. I nicked her 12v, carried it the driveway, jumped leaded to my 12v through the read door and car came to life and was functional again.

Wierd experience I thought I'd share with you all!

All the best

Yeah, I thought it was a bit small. My diesel had a thumping great 60AH Battery so I could leav a cool box running in there for 12 hours no probs. Dare not do it with the Prius.

Nothing's perfect.

I assume it charged back up ok?

  • 2 weeks later...

Next time, open the bonnet and there is a point in the fuse box (?) which is designed for jumping, so theres no problem getting the back open and into the little Battery hole.

Put one lead on this point, the other on any bare metal part, then connect the spare Battery as normal. Switch on, get the motor started disconnect and away you go. B)
