How To Remove The Rearview Mirror

Hello,

I am sorry for the basic (and stupid) question.

I own the Echo (Canadian version of Yari) and I was wondering how do you remove the rearview mirror without removing the mounting bracket/button from the windshield?

I see that there is an opening in the bottom of the rearview mirror bracket but am I supposed to push something inside like a screwdriver to loosen a spring that clasps the mounting button (like a friend of mind did on his Acura) or am I supposed to turn the bracket clockwise to release it from the mounting button (like I have heard on some vehicles)?

I am not sure how Toyota has attached the rearview mirror and I do not want to screw it up and have to end up replacing the mounting bracket (or damaging the windshield in the process) as well as the mirror.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated (as you can tell, I am a newbie when it comes to stuff like this).

Cheers,

djp

to remove the mirror turn 90 degrees and slide down comes off much eaiser than just yanking it down
