Verso Diesel no cranking first morning start

[Perfection]

Family member had been using the car and has reported on two separate occasions that the car failed to start in n the morning (within a few days of each other). I was told the engine did not even crank in both occasions. The dash lights all came on as normal. The car only started on second attempt both times.

Today the same car user had reported that the Yaris diesel failed  a to start first time  at a super market car park. This car I uses every day and never miss a beat of starting. 

What do you guys think? Is it the driver or the cars are causing the problem.?

I am just nervous about the Verso if it does have a genuine problem as it is use for ferrying the children to a school. 

I am still suspicious that is the driver failed to press down the clutch. I have asked about this and the driver says don't ask undermining question.
