Knocking sound while reversing

I have been hearing a sort of knocking sound while I am reversing. Almost every time I start reversing there is a knocking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. It’s not a constant thud but but a thud maybe a second passes then thud while the vehicle is in motion reversing. That’s the best description. Any ideas? I have have replaced the rear wheel hub already.

Hi, not sure if your Rav4 rear end is the same as mine... but a favourite problem is rear diff mounting bushes.  If these are worn... as the power is applied/slacked off it enables the rear diff to slop about in the worn mounts.  Worth a look with a crow bar... :)

Might be worth doing a simple check on the exhaust mounts/hangers too.
