sensor issue

Hi guys anyone had this problem, the sensor's on the windscreen of my car did not seem to be working right as a warning flashed up on the dash to say temporary unavailable please clean your windscreen, so pulled into a lay bye to check and discovered the area where the sensors are had become misted up? I would have thought this would be a sealed unit to stop this happening, or is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the sensors??

This is a known problem, Toyota have modified the assembly to stop it happening, get it changed under warranty. I had mine done last year.

Thanks Dennis, will pop in there this week sometime, how long does it take to have this done?? Thought something was up as it wasn't raining the day this happened nice and sunny although a bit cold, has happened before when the weather was bad like heavy rain etc, but no point having sensors if they don't do what there meant to, cheers.

The new unit has to be fitted along with the wiring it then need calibrating, they had mine for two days,

No problems with the fitting on mine all back as it should be, I think most of it is more a pain than a help, the road sign reader reads signs that ar'nt there and misses signs that are there the collision warning is forever beeping and flashing for no reason.

Generally the car is good but they have a long way to go with the electronics apart from the sensor system the touch 2 with go is also pretty useless doing strange things and a nightmare to program a route with waypoints.

Sorry rant over.

Feel your pain, had the car for over a year now sensors on mine read the speed limit on the back of a truck speed limited to 50mph, collision thing comes on when going past a parked car on opposite side of the road even at low speed 15mph, GPS seems to be ok though once you get used to it, worse thing is the vibration from the engine, already had the crankshaft pulley, tensioner and belts changed, just wonder if I should leave the sensor as it is? may be less hassle.

Did the pulley etc make any improvement to the vibration?. Mine vibrates far more than i expect.

Only slight improvement at first but seems to be going back the way it was, worse when its cold in the morning but gets a bit better when it warms up, tried to fob me off at first with, yeah we know about the vibration just the nature of the new BMW engine they use, can still smell the Bull...t!!

Yes I know about the bull, like yours mine is worse when cold, it's not been too bad through the summer, now it's getting colder again it's getting far worse.

Not like Toyota at all? And BMW owners with the same engine don't seem to have the problem, this could well be my last Toyota, after having nothing else for over 35 years.

Yeah this could well be my last Toyota also, new problem today think it could be something to do with the start/stop thing stopped in traffic engine stops as normal, dip the clutch to engage gear to drive off thing would not start as it would normally but trying to, traffic building up behind had to switch off then re start then drove off, ok may be a one off but if it happens again it will be getting the John Cleese treatment.
