Hi , just found out the stereo is dead, suspected fuse , change fuse still the same , cigarette lighter works fine ?

I am just doing brake pipes and mot work so have had it in my brothers garage for a bit , stereo worked fine before , but the Battery was dead at one stage I assume because of my nephew going in the car and pushing buttons etc so I am kind of suspecting the stereo issue is linked to that , its a CD player unit.

Is there an internal fuse on the stereo ?

Thanks

Stuart

Hi,

Assume you have changed the 15A CIG fuse ?

The 15A DOME and 10A ECU-IG also feed into the head unit, so try them.

No idea about any internal fuse but if the above does not solve it, search this and the Audio forum.

Hi thanks for replying , yes I changed the 15A fuse that listed the cig lighter and stereo, I assumed there was only that fuse for it , ill take my meter tomorrow and test the other ones and report back how I get on.

Checked all other fuses today with the meter on continuity bleeper and all fuses were ok , even did the three large ones, so I am a bit puzzled, cig lighter works as do all other electrics yet the stereo is dead ?

Hi,

I expect there is some form of last ditch fuse protection inside the radio, but never heard mention of it or anyone opening up one of those head units.

If you suspect someone has been messing around, my first check would be the rear wiring connectors, has a wire or plug come out ?

Can your measure +12v and ground at the back of the radios many connector pins.   Think I have seen some pinouts somewhere in the forum if you search.

Also to turn the radio on you must have the ign switch turned on to at least the first position ACC or ON... ?   again its wire or contact could be broken/faulty .

The messing around was by my brothers boy just sitting pushing buttons and turning switches on , I initially linked that to what had happened to the stereo as that's the only plausible thing I could think of as to why it suddenly went dead.

I have tried it with car running also so I guess ill have to try and remove the stereo and check the supply on the connector pins, the car has been a project so I am planning to sell it so ideally I need the stereo working to attract a buyer.

Only other thing I can think is that I have maybe disturbed something when I was replacing brake pipes but I really wasn't aware of any wiring in the way while doing the job.
