Hi there..

I've always found forums great help in the past with car issues I've had previously.. so here goes!

Got a full service done last week on my 2007 yaris Luna and since then when I accelerate it makes a whistling/whurring sound.. when I lay off the gas it stops etc.. it's not super loud but noticeable and before I take it back it would be great to have ideas.. its definitely only since it was serviced also..

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Frostyballs :')

It's a petrol engine..

If non turbo, It's an air leak somewhere in the intake system. Check all pipes for cracks and all gaskets for splits...

If it's a turbo, as above or the turbo is failing.

Hey there..

It's non turbo just a standard 998cc Luna.. only happened after the full service so I wouldn't know what to check.. I don't know how to also being it up that the car was fine (no high pitched noise) before they worked on it..

Assuming it is an air whistling and not e.g. gearbox whine (Which can be a thing if they just changed the gearbox oil as part of the service), my first thought is that they didn't fit the engine air filter properly; I had a service once where they somehow fitted it upside down so the airbox wasn't sealing properly - Just that tiny gap was enough for my turbo to sound far louder than normal!

I know yours isn't a turbodiesel, but I suspect a similar thing might be happening and it's easy to check! Just pop the hood, release the catches on the airbox and have a look! It should go back on quite easily; If you have to force it, either the filter is in wrong or the bottom slot of the airbox isn't aligned properly.

Is the noise speed related e.g. does the sound alter the faster you go or is it constant? Also what else has changed since you drove it after it was serviced, are you now driving without the radio on etc?

In my experience whistling sounds can come from a number of things such as bearings, belts and plain old wind related noise, have you tried driving it with the windows down to see if it's coming from the front/back? If it's wind related you could try temporarily folding in the door mirrors to eliminate them also try setting the heating/ventilation system to recirculation mode and alter the baffles to demist etc.to see if the problem is from there.

Good luck in your quest. :)

Hi, Did you manage to find out what was causing the whistling noise?
