Advice/opinions Please

Hello

I'm maybe about to purchase a new motor.

I've got a list of possibles and on there is a MK2 MR2 T-bar (Turbo) and a Celica GT4 (Carlos Sainz) amongst others.

I would really like some opinions on these cars, whatever you want to throw at me!

I have around 4k to spend, 5k at a push and insurance isn't an issue.

UK vs Import? That sort of thing.

At the minute I own a Peugeot 309 GTi. I love this car and may just hang onto it and do some more to the engine as it has low miles and good bodywork but I don't get taken seriously at my oc and I tend to have to mix with 'boyracers' as it comes with the pug territory unfortunatley.

Enough from me, your turn....... :P

Welcome to the site

Carlos Sainz if you need a bit more practicality, but for my money it would have to be MR2 Turbo  I'm sure Fizz (ex Celica owner) will link you to some pics of his Tubby, he was looking for a while but ended up with a beauty

And if you need any more reason to buy an MR2, take a look at Bibbs car!!!!!

Either way both cracking motors and whatever else you need to know, someone on here can answer it.

Whereabouts in NE are you? Seems to be a few more members in this area now.

I'm just after general advice really, like I said, import vs UK car, drivability, reliability, cost to fix and niggles etc etc.

I'm in Teesside btw ;)

I'd suggest driving ALL the cars that fit your description, and ones that are more expensive (and cheaper) ..

Then you'll know what sort of car you want ..

The GT4 and MR2 have the same engines, but are miles apart in driving, practicality etc ..

And the 3s-gte engine has won many a rally and is fairly bomb proof ..

Following on from Bibbs...

The GT4 from my research is more expensive to maintain with the 4WD system and also it eats tyres a lot quicker than the RWD MR2 Turbo...

As Bibbs states.. both cars are bomb proof as long... (and this is the important bit) they ahev been well maintained and serviced on a regular basis...

Import cars are all over the place now and so parts aint all that hard to come by as they also share many parts with the UK models...

GT4

Pro's - Cheaper - Look Agressive! B) - HUGE boot - some rear seats

con's - Thirsty - more things to break with the 4WD system - look slightly dated

MR2 T-Bar Turbo

Pro's - Stats.. Rev 3 Turbo 0-60 5.2 top end 160mph+ - RWD - Mid-Engine - Look the business - very twitchy in the wet - etc etc etc.. i could go on all day.. :P

Con's - 2 seats - not much storage space - very twitchy in the wet - leaky T-bars (90% of them have this issue)

Click on the link to my garage in my signature for pics..

And lastly.. you should make sure that you look long and hard for a decent example.. and with your budget... you should be able to get the Revision 3 MR2 Turbo

Need any help with anything.. give us a shout...
