Front Coil Spring snapped at base

About 2 inches of metal at the base of the spring is missing, it must have broken off a very long time ago as the joint already corroded.

Anyone recommend a brand I could buy/replace without major handling problem?. Iam aiming to replace one, not a pair.

You'll get a lot of advice telling you to only change them as a pair. Consider the engine on the RH side and the fact that most cars are driven with only the driver present (on the RH side) and you'll see most FWD cars are 'unbalanced' anyway. I once owned an early Fiat Panda which had a spacer, as standard, under the RH front spring for the UK market.

I've replaced springs singularly without any perceived problems. I recommend you just obtain one from a reputable motor factors, I always have.

Toyota wanted £100 for a single coil. I asked if they recommend to changed in pairs. They said there is no need.

I might go for a Blueprint brand for around £50 single coil. But they do recommend to replace in pairs. So there a bit of dilemma.

You're right that it was the driver side that had snapped at the base. But I think it's to do with water being pooled on the base mount (corrosion).

A rear coil snapped on our Jazz early this year. I bought one on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/carpartssaver?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2754

Fitted perfectly, ride height ok.. no problems..  Sprayed all coils with Dinitrol 4941 to prevent recurrence due to rust.

.Unacceptable failure in a 14 year old car.. :-)
