I just bought the keyless Toyota yaris 2017 hybrid.

the doors do not lock automatically unless I physically press the lock button when I start the car.

how can I make the doors automatically lock once I move the lever to drive position?

thank you all

The Yaris doesn't feature auto door locking.

Is there a way to do it? or I have to add something extra?

Not unless you go for a third party system, and then you could affect the new car warranty.

Why do you want it auto?  You can do it manually easily if you want them locked.

Recently sold our elderly Clio and that had auto, and it wasn't long before we switched it to manual.  Recently sold our late Fiat 500, and that had an auto function too, but we switched that one to manual.  It became annoying ............ to us at least ............... that the doors clunk locked after reaching the correct speed.

It's weird that auto-locking is not offered. I would have thought it was one of those features that the dealer could enable if you ask them. After all, it's just a matter of a software setting that need changing.

Sorry - more of a pontification than valuable contribution...

Going back to when I had my 2009 Auris, Toyota didn't offer auto locking on the majority, if not all, their UK market models. One can use the switch on the driver's door.

Both our previous 2012 and 2015 i20's had/have auto locking. Depending on where one lives, works, etc, it can be a useful feature but not something I would lose any sleep over if we didn't have it.

My use of door locking is when in a 'dodgy' area - I set it as soon as I have sat down and before the car started - don't want someone getting in when you are settling in, as it were. Auto locking wouldn't help at all! I vote for the manual system.

On our Hyundai the auto locking operates at quite a low speed (9 mph), and stays locked until either a door is opened from the inside, the lock/unlock button is depressed or the keys are taken out of the ignition. Automatically unlocks if an impact causes any of the airbags to deploy. My wife found it useful in her work for DWP as she had to visit some of the less salubrius areas of Birmingham.

You also have the option of using the lock/unlock button to manually lock all the doors and tailgate at any time (eg when first getting into the car).

Exactly.

You get in your car, and you may creep along in traffic.  Until you reach the threshold speed, the doors won't auto-lock at all. You could stop at a junction, and you are vulnerable.

If you want them locked, lock 'em straight away, before you set off.

I get in, foot on brake pedal, shut the door, power on, hit the lock button. I do it regardless of where I am.
