 Hello everyone,

I have toyota yaris 2005 bought it recently, this happened to me few times. and it happened again this evening, so basically got in to the card put the key in switched the car and it started then changed the gear to E to move but got alarm noise and the gear didn't changed stayed on N. switched the car off, and the tried to switch it on but now the car doesn't start, could't even hear the starter motor and all lights comes up when turning the key. I left the car for about an hour then tried to switch it on and it started first time. this happened 3 times in last couple of weeks.  any idea what could be the issue?

I have recorded the video of it when it happened

Alas, the MMT semi-auto gearbox doesn't have a great rep for reliability.

To get you started, the first two things worth checking:

When was the clutch last done

When was the gearbox oil last changed

These tend to be the two most common things that I've seen cause the gearbox not to go in gear, esp. when cold. If it's been ages, get those done first and see if that helps.

Did you buy it privately or from a dealer?

If from a dealer, I'd try and hit them up for some/all of the cost for those!

As above, plenty of faults can occur with MMT. Many different technical bulletins to search through when diagnosing these faults:(.

From incorrect clutches fitted (must be a self adjusting cover), stroke sensors, faulty actuators or even loose bolts on the selector shaft.
