Hi, I'm looking to change my rear brake pads on Avensis 2012 2ltr diesel which has the electric hand brake motor. Does this type need specific tools for the the job?

Hi Trevor, welcome to TOC

You should ask this question in the Avensis forum not in New Members (perhaps a Mod will move it). Look/search for posts there by Konrad on doing it.

Yes the piston need to be wound back and you can use a suitable hand tool. But beware, the left hand side uses a reverse thread!
I have this kit, and similar was used when my rear brake pads were changed. 20171112_113102.thumb.jpg.351f6ac7abee782e92f677d42a6ed92d.jpg

You can also use the following - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DISC-BRAKE-CALIPER-PISTON-REWIND-WIND-BACK-CUBE-TOOL-3-8-SQ-DR/201312730622?epid=1859991853&hash=item2edf2c7dfe:g:QF8AAOSwstxVDH8H

I have the earlier EPB without the auto engage function, but the later system has a service mode.
