Auris 2014 speakers are horrible —> replace?

Hello,

I bought Auris TS hybrid few months ago and bad front Speakers and missing rear Speakers is now something what would wanna replace and install.

What i would like to know that is there even speaker wiring to backdoors since there is no Speakers?

Does anyone have some repair doc how to safely remove door paneling? Done that many times on older cars and it is usually pain in the ***** job if you dont know exactly where all plastic locking things are:|

Door card removal is easy on the Auris.

I've just got around to updating this post with some pictures.

With the first generation additional wiring looms were required for the rear door Speakers. I would imagine the same would be the case for the second generation.

I don't get why UK spec Auris doesn't get JBL audio even as an upgrade. It can allegedly be fitted as an accessory though.

So, i upgradet front Speakers to Alpine SXE-17CS 6.5 and installed dynamat extreme doot kit.

It was -17C outside, got car to indoor and let is warm up an hour. Removing door panel was nicely easy to do. Found same water excape hole from passenger doors moisture sealant to speaker as @gerg from his -13. So i would say mk2 owners should check it.

I sealed moisture barrier bottom part with Dynamat aluminium tape from both front doors. Removed old Speakers. Applied dynamat what i could without removing moisture barried.

OEM Tweeter has its own (4 wire connector) wire and mid OEM speaker has own (2 wire connectors)wire. Alpine came so that tweeter is connected to mid Speakers so i installed those to car so that i connected old mid speaker wire to alpine speaker and alpine tweeter is connected there. Left OEM tweeker wire off and tested. I was blown away, not because of alpines but because only speakers what were playing in my car from rear door speakers what i thought did not have! I was seriously confused. Then i connected OEM tweeker to driver side and tested again, now only front speakers was playing. Then i connected both OEM tweeters and had front alpines playing along with rear door speakers!

So originally i had bad connection at one of the front tweeter what caused situation that only front speakers worked.

I tried to play with jumper wire on OEM tweeter wire after measuring OEM tweeter with multimeter, but but not wire it so that back speakers would work. I taped OEM tweeters inside door and put door panel over.

I applied dynamat to spare tire section on the trunk also. Next step is to buy second Apline SXE-17CS 6.5 kit and install those to rear doors with dynamat, yeah i now there is no tweeter but thought to make hole for those to door panel.

So, if anyone is missing rear speakers it is very easy to pop off OEM tweeters from the doors and double check connection.

Pro tip also: those Alpine SXE-17 6.5 speaker tweeters came with housing what clips to OEM tweeker place, i secured it with clue but dunno if really needed! Also some 3V Battery is good for checking polarity, i cutted original mid speaker 2 wire connector off, put that to speaker and checked what color wire is + and what -. Both doors has separate colors.

Finally i got time to work on rear doors. Both rear doors had same moisture barrier issue like in front doors. Rear doors moisture barrier was off three points and both doors had big gap over the speaker. I would highly recommend at least 2014 owners to check their moisture barries.

- Taped moisture barries all around with Dynamap alumn tape

- Installed dynamat also inside door behind speaker and also more inner where i could reach.

- Thrilled 36mm holes in both door panels to moun Speakers.

Here are pictures.

Hey Jack75. I just bought a used 2015 Hybrid Estate. The front right (lower) speaker isn't working. I'm wondering what specific Speakers you used? Was it a simple switch over (same connectors etc.)? Thanks!

I’d like to bump this topic 🙂

is there any outright plug and play Speakers that can be used to improve the auris 2015 pre face lift?

With the lack of holidays this year I wouldn’t mind spending some money on a better sound system.

Any speaker that fits will do, up to you what you put. They are all run by 2 wires anyway.

Keep in mind that you will probably need to splice the connectors, so prepare tools needed.

You can see the in the post before yours how OP used new connectors with insulation.

If you have soldering iron and some heat shrink, it will work even better.

Hi,

I took the connection plug out of the oem Speakers, a little bit of a faf but I'm sure it will be worth it. Pic here to show. Just a soldering iron needed.
