Reprogram entry key after battery died

Hi folks,

I have a 3 months old Yaris Icon Tech hybrid, and the transponder stopped working. I rang the garage who didn't fell that 3months to fail was rid problem, and they recommended I change the Battery in the transponder. This I did, and now the car doesn't react to it at all. It needs programming to work.

I do have a spare one.

I can find no advice on programming these things without turning keys in the ignition. I have no key and no ignition to put one into.

If anyone had any advice how to use the spare to programme the main one, I would be grateful.

New members, hello to all.

Cheers,  Paddy

Your Toyota should have 12 months Toyota Roadside Assistance from the date of purchase or first registration. I would call Toyota Roadside Assistance, get them to come out to the car, and if they cannot get it going, have them recover it to a Toyota dealer, and, as far as I'm aware, the dealer should sort the issue under the new car warranty.

Don"t try programming it yourself.

Moved to the Yaris club.

It doesn't need recovering as Pad has another working key. Just take the car to a Toyota dealer (preferably the supplier/one that told you to change the Battery [I take it the lights does glow when you press the button on it?]).

Have you tried the alternate start method with the non-functioning key?

Hold the transponder key so the Toyota Badge is facing away from you as you hold the key.

Just touch the Toyota Badge on the start button while holding your foot on the brake. You should get a green key symbol. Just push the start button and the car should switch on.

If that doesn't work, it has lost the programming.

If it does work, then you need to try another Battery. From what I can tell, it can't "half" forget a key. They either work completely or not at all.

Does the car reliably detect your good working key 100% of the time? It could be that the fob is faulty, and only working some of the time.
