corolla verso jumps out of 5th gear

Hi guys, My 55 plate 2.0 diesel d4-d engine verso won't hold in 5th gear, having seen some youtube videos on replacing the gear I thought it might be worth having a go at it with a mate but then found that the kits that you can get for them come in 40, 41 and 42 teeth, can anybody give me an idea of a, which one I need and b, if it's as 'easy' as the videos make it look?

Have you enquired  how much a local Clutch/Gearbox/Transmission specialist garage would charge for doing it,  plus is your clutch due for a change anyway ?

yes, the local guy advised me to bring around £650 to the table, he told me that the gear itself would be around £400 but I've seen 'genuine toyota' gears on eBay for under £200 and a recon gearbox for £170. Don't know about the clutch but the pedal bites around the lower half and it feels ok

Hi there my 2005 corolla verso has just gone the same way but i am at a loss as to which tooth count kit to order can someone tell me how i can find this out short of taking it apart and counting it prior to ordering a replacement yours Steve
