Avensis Verso D4D 2002 - Things to look at before buying

Hi all,

following the wreckage of my wife's italian car, I have an opportunity to buy a October 2002 D4D Avensis Verso. I'm looking for a big 5-7 seater car and I have an Avensis TD (99) which gives me satisfaction.

This opportunity has already 230 K kms and has (probably I guess) the 116 hp engine - 1CD-FTV.
I originally wanted the 150hp gasoline engine, but it is very hard to find in France. The one I'm looking at is a couple km from here.

I know the timing belt has 30k , so I should be fine for another 70 k kms, or a couple of years.
It has "a recent" turbo (need to check when changed) and the SCVs (I asked the owner why did he change the SCV, waiting answer).

What are the things I really need to look at ?
A colleague of mine has this engine on a RAV4 and had a lot of trouble with the SCV (loss of power, etc...), although having been changed a lot of times..
I'll have the occasion to test it, anything to hear, to test, , to be careful at , full throttle on highway, etc ?...

Thanks !

Boucing back :)
I bought that car, and so far I'm very happy with it.
I had a discussion with a Toyota mechanic, who told me (he had to crosscheck) that Avensis Verso's have SMF, although this is the 1CD-FTV 115.

He told me that this engine on Previas and Avensis Versos had SMF, instead of DMF on Corollas, Rav4s etc...

Can some confirm/deny ?

Thanks a lot !
