sxa11 accelerate/brake issue

hey there peeps.

trying to diagnose and issue with the misses rav4. sxa11.

whilst driving it randomly looses power for a second. it felt like a gust of wind hitting the car front on and slowing down for a half second. it is random. what I noticed whilst driving it at night is that the rear stop light actually flashes at the same time as the car will experience the problem :s

Check for intermittent earth on the power to the brake lamp circuit, or an intermittent short between the accelerator pedal circuit and the brake lamp circuit.

is there a sensor for the accelerator?

Mmm...I didn't look at the year - 1999 - perhaps not.

My money is on some interaction between the ignition and brake switch and earth. Ignition signal and brake switch signal both usually go to the ECU, so perhaps in that area?
