Electronic Parking Brake

Having some issues with my Avensis Estate. EPB is flashing a warning " Check Parking Brake System" and "release parking brake" ,also at the same time the rear seat seatbelt warnings suggest the three rear seats are occupied and no seatbelts in use.  Its like a campanologists dream in there but driving me mad. The handbrake has stopped working. The alarm came on as I was driving along, not applying the brake.

Hi Steve

I had a similar thing with the seat belt. Turned out to be my bag . Didn't even cross my mind.  Also could be you have spilt something on the seats?

Regarding the EPB, unsure if are in the UK,  But have you been driving in any deep puddles as this can cause some issues with the EPB as the unit is located externally in the rear.

Regards

Adil

Thanks for your reply Diluk. I'm also in Lancs. Nothing on the back seat and all three seats showing as occupied. I'm off into the garage shortly to give it the once over, spent all day yesterday moving kelter so I could get in the garage.

Certainly on our 2012 model there are no actual sensors under the rear seats to detect if anyone is sat on them, the car merely records if either of the rear doors were opened prior to setting off. If either rear door was opened then the car will show a rear seat belt display for the first few minutes of driving, showing that the 3 rear belts aren't fastened. This isn't a fault as far as I know, it's just how it works. It doesn't mean it thinks the seats are occupied.
