Sluggish and reduction in MPG

Hi,

I have a RAV4 2007 2.2 Xt-r diesel. Over the past 2 weeks I’ve noticed the car getting sluggish and have lost 1.5mpg. Nothing has changed in driving style or route, weight etc. The MPG display on the dash barely goes above half now, even when steady driving at 30mph. I’ve done a few motorway journeys of 30 mile but still mpg is decreasing. I was at 55.3mpg not at 53.1mpg.

My car last had a full service 12 months ago so it’s due a service but surely it shouldn’t cause this? It’s well kept, air pressure correct in tyres, recent MOT pass.

Any help would be great.

Hi Craig, welcome to TOC

The mpg will drop with the colder weather.

It can't do any harm having it serviced especially if it is due & they might pick up something (e.g. a binding caliper). How many miles on it?

Hi it’s got 115000. I’ve just had new pads fitted in November. It’s not been that cold to be honest.
