Coolant temperature sensor

Anyone replace the coolant temperature sensor before. Thinking this might be the reason for poor starting in the cold. I've checked the glow plugs, cleaned EGR valve and all the filters replaced. I plugged into the OBD and coolant temperature is reading 8 degrees, even on cold mornings where outside it is in minus figures. I'm guessing the ECU is not configuring the car for a cold start due to receiving wrong temperature reading. Any advice appreciated
