Toyota Auris bad idle after battery exchange

Hi

I own a Toyota Auris RT 2008 Model. Purchased a new Battery. After installation, the car idles strangely and just switches off. When driving around, coming to a stop, car switches off.

Found some forums stating the the EU needs to be reset as it lost the settings in memory.  Is this the solution ? How do you do this ? I'm no mechanic. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

When you changed the Battery, did you let it idle for couple of minutes?

I know people often do this because of the ECU, as it needs to relearn the settings. You can always try disconnecting again, it would reset it, reconnect after 10 min, let it idle for 5 minutes or so, then try.

When letting the car idle 1st time, dont turn the lights, aircon or anything else on.

Hi, when in idle, it would not idle correctly and eventually after a couple of minutes switches off.

Do as furtula suggested. Disconnect the Battery negative lead only and leave it disconnected for a few minutes. Now reconnect the lead. Do it smartly with no dithering, pushing the terminal hard down on the Battery post. While holding firmly tighten but DO NOT overtighten the clamp. Now start the engine and leave it to idle for a few minutes before driving. Drive for a few miles to allow the ECU to relearn the optimum settings.

If that doesn't work then something untoward has  happened during the Battery swap.

Thanks for the assistance. Took it to the local Toyota dealer. Cleaned throttle body and ECU adjustments. Couple of hours later all sorted.

Pleased to hear you have had it sorted :) Wouldn't like to second guess the whys and wherefores of a Battery change doing that.
