At present i have 2 MK1 pre face lift T Sports. Running 1 daily and 1 in the garage being repaired. A while ago i stripped an 03 1.3 completely. The engine looked very similar to the T Sport. Will the gearbox off the 1.3 fit onto the T Sport?

They do look extremely similar may be worth a try but im guessing the splines on the shaft or the shaft is longer or shorter

Assuming the 1.3 is a Japanese built with a 2NZ and not a French built with a 2SZ ( as they are totally different ) then the engine is almost identical to the 1.5 1NZ in the T-sport this however is where the similarities end the T-sport uses a unique box where the box, mounts, driveshafts, shift cables etc are all different. Assuming you overcame all of the differences the gearing is way off too the 1.3 is geared for a lower powered economy car if you got it fitted the T-sport would feel considerably less T-sporty

Thank you so much for your input to my question. I have just aquired a replacement T Sport gearbox from a doner car of the same age. Are there any tips anyone can give to the removal of the offending gearbox. i.e out the top, out the bottom, entire engine removal etc etc.

Well the box is out and the clutch removed. I went for tilting the engine down on the passenger side and  partially removing the front subframe to gain a better access. All went relatively smoothly. Took me 2 1/2 hours. Now looking forward to bench pressing the new box into place after i've fitted the new clutch.
