Eibach Springs Installed..

I now have my Eibach pro-kit springs installed 2 weeks to my 98 18st with disappointing results.

I measured the gap before hand and now the front has lowered by 25mm which i can live with but the rear, WHAT A F*#KIN JOKE, 10mm :( , and they are supposed to lower by 30mm all round.

What has happend to these so called great refined springs?

I did put new standard gas shocks in the rear 9 months ago, but its supposed to be the springs that determine the height is'nt it?

So what now?

Should i go back to the shop and complain? And even ask for my money back! Fat chance of that happening.

Put the old shocks on again as they were'nt too bad? But it's spring that determine height.

Cut a coil or two off the rear springs as 3 of the bottom coils sit on top of each other, (much to my surprise), and why is this?

Buy Cobra, P.I. or Roc springs which lower by 40mm. But would the same happen to them? I guess not. Has anyone got them fitted and how do they perform? I read somewhere on this forum about some shocks making a knocking noise!

I am not going to leave it like this! I want NO MORE BIG GAPS. Hmmm, maybe i should use the can'ed stuff, you know, the "No more big gaps" filler!!

Has anyone else fitted Eibach pro-kit springs and what were your results??

have you give them time to drop , but if all bottom coils are touching i suppose you have , i'd personally send em back , i fitted jamex - 35mm all round no problems at all £ 84 .the shocks play no part in it as you said .those rear springs seem too long to me.

Got them at Carnoisseur. There was no description on box what car they were for so they could be wrong springs!

I've got Roc and it's definately low, possibly over 40mm at the front but the ride is fine so far (been a couple of months).

I had some Jamex before and had nothing but problems with them, the fronts knocked and the car bottomed out all the time (rears were fine). The thing with the Jamex was if you stood the front spring next to the front spring of the Rocs, the Roc spring was 2 inches longer and yet it lowers more??? The Jamex just seemed to be cut down to me?? How you getting on with yours Maleborn?? I'm trying to return mine but the shop are being a pain and I'm loathed to sell them on privately incase someone has the same probs as me.

Maleborn: do you know the part number of yours? What Gen celica have you got (mines a 1994 SS2 6th Gen).

springs are i think part number J120187 , lower 35 mm , mines a gen 6 1995 2 litre, i put 17 " rims on because previous owner had lowered it ,but had his wheels stolen ,so to sell it he put second hand 15 's back on , it bottomed out like crazy ,the 2" lift cured it, i put original springs on cost me £ 97 ,but didnt like the feel and the car looked awful at the back , so i put new jamex on 2 weeks ago .in the winter im putting the original springs back on and the old 15 " wheels , keep my new alloys outa the bad weather .personally i think a 40mm drop is too much , plus when the springs lose their stiffness they will drop even futher which isnt good.

no knocking ,wheels sometimes scrub inner wing liner on full lock but not often, usually when car is tilted on a camber or curb. gaps are 50 mm at rear from tyre to arch . and 30 mm at the front , also remember to cut the bump stops in half when fitting lowering springs to avoid struts bottoming out too soon.

the jamex are only £ 69 plus £ 15 delivery in the uk from http://www.topgear.co.uk/contact/index.html

Thats strange. The part number for my Jamex is the same but mine bottomed out. And now my Roc are lower, theres no gap between wheel and arch at front and about 10mm at rear and yet they never bottom or knock at all and I never get any wheel scrubbing. I do think it's to do with the shorter spring on the Jamex's, maybe they would have been better with a shortened strut (some lowering springs are supposed to work only with shortened struts). Been in touch with the supplier again and they say they will refund my money for them so at least I didn't pay for them for nothing...

Very nice wagon indeed

Maybe the Roc springs are stiffer than the Jamex? What is the ride quality like in them both and are you using standard shocks?

i'm driving with the same springs kit lowered by 40mm ,

the problem with your shocks is probably the installation.

Fitted them myself with no problems.

With the rear standard and Eibach togeather the Eibach was just slightly smaller, 5-10mm.

Do you know the part no. of yours?

i am thinking of getting new suspension are there any other areas to look at while i have the suspension off. ie uprating bumpstops to powerflex or any other bushes joints that are alot easyier to get to once the rest is off.

  • 2 weeks later...

Measured the rear shocks the other day to find out if they were a different length from the old ones. Measured from under the cup were the spring starts and seats at the lowest point to the centre of the upper bolt and there was only 2-3 mm difference so it is not the new shocks.

Found a sticker on the inside of the Eibach box, hmm, how did it get in there?

It states; NR. : 8242.140

toyota celica T20, 1.8

<3.94

My maths may not be good, but if i recall, correct me if i'm wrong, < means less than and > means more than. So i have springs for celica made before Mar 94 which is a Gen5 as the Gen6 started at 3.94 but Gen5's only came in 2.0

What do you guys think?
