Hi All,

Need Desperate help and advice, I bought estima 2004 automatic last year it's import model, over last 2 months when I drive the car and goes over 40 the is a engine raving, also there is an engine symbol on dashboard, but when I go over a speed bump the sign goes off. I was advised speed sensors and I bought 2 speed sensors and the garage changed them. Problem is still there I was advised it could be gearbox, taken to gearbox specialist and they have advised it could be electrical issue?

so I spoke to auto electrician they are not sure, any advice please

Hi...and welcome.

Is it the 2.4 or the V6 3 litre.?

Anyone thought of doing an OBD check for fault codes.????..and have you checked the ATF for condition and levels.?

Hi it's 2.4 petrol 2 garages came up speed sensors. And I did speak to Toyota and their technician said that the machine to check the codes for this model is around £20k and not make garages have this diagnostic machine

Well, you can buy an ELM 327 obd interface jobby (see ebay) and link it to a diagnostic app on your phone/tablet via bluetooth....though results are mixed...seems to work for some and not for others...or buy something like the attached for around £100.

My local garage can read my codes on my V6 (for free.!!)..they have a G-scan system..but I don't necessarily agree with your Toyota chap..I think there are quite a few garages around that can read the codes..though I accept you have to find them.!

Thanks I will check it out, I changes the two sensors which are near the Battery in front but are there any more sensors inside the gearbox  ?

Surely your "gearbox specialist" would have found any major issues with your box..?..and checked that your ATF was in good condition and at the right level.?

After the sensors were fitted did you use an OBD reader to clear the codes.?..and extinguish the EML/Check Engine light.?

Hello

More likely to be the Oxygen Sensors. I had mine done on a mk2 2000 Aeras in 2011 and a Toyota garage did it. Cost wise around £250. Pricey I know, but I never had that problem again. The orange engine management light was on when I bought the Estima in 2011 and I asked the vendor what the light was for, he did not know other than something could be wrong with the engine. I took it to a Toyota garage and they used their reader to suss out the fault and it was the 02 sensor.

Hi All

i saw the post from Michael and on my problem which was engine light it’s still there.

i went to many trouble shooters but thanks from previous comments I finally had electric engineer who looked and informed me that I bought stereo from Halfords and fitted myself wrong thing to do one of the lead I left out was draining the engine he sorted the leads and all done.

the light is still on but in uk there is no software to correct the code it apparently cost 10k to get the machine from Japan which Toyota want get so I m not worried the light stays on but the car running great I hope this helps
