Door MIrrors Control Switch Light

As a new owner can anyone advise me if the switches on the centre tunnel that control the door mirros are supposed to be illuminated. Just getting used to the car but having to press the button to retract the mirrors in the dark is not a big problem but is very annoying when you can't see the button. It may simply be the bulb(s) are blown or a fuse gone but fimding this info on the web has been fruitless. On the same area is a plug in panel which I cant find out what is supposed to be used with it. Idealy I would like to change it for a USB double outlet ... is this possible

Hi Jim there is no circuit in the switch for  illumination, There are two sections that can be lifted there as is under the padded section there is another lift up bit. Not always obvious is a cigarette lighter socket that you can plug a USB plug in.Sorry if you know this
