A reliable Yaris and will be missed to see it goes

I have been thinking for a while whether to replace my Yaris diesel. Now it's time and I have been offered a great deal and sold it.

After owning the car for 7 years, it is sad to see it goes after the car had been well maintained and never had trouble. The mileage the car had covered is approx 130k miles and it's virtually problem free. The only problem was the dpf, but was resolved when it was cleaned.

No other issues been encountered from new to 130k miles of use. (Except the normal wear parts replacement).

Thank you for the guys that help to resolve my queries on here and I hope I also have helped other posters on the Yaris.

Perfect.

Hope you have as much enjoyment with your new car as you did with the Yaris, maybe you could pop over to this site now and again offering advice to other members.

I have a 2008 Yaris d4d , thinking to change it in a year or so but not sure what to go for , I live and work in a town so its always short runs , so I am not sure if having a diesel is the right car , ideally I would like something a bit bigger than the yaris with more space for shopping , kids stuff or luggage if we go on a road trip.

Patonski (Mike),

I have been two two dealerships, a Toyota and a Honda to decide. But I have been researching for the last few months to meet my requirements.

My requirements and thoughts are:

- Chain driven, no timing belt (a must requirement)

- reliable and easy to maintain (i.e no special equipment required to replace brakes etc)

- small size for commuting to work, looking for 55mpg or better.

- 15k miles on A roads per year.

- constant speed on A road between 60 to 70 mph (90% of driving)

- comfortable to drive for under 1 hour

- cruise control if fitted

- good boot space and have a spare wheel with space saver. Not the foam spray.

- a better car manufacturers dealership experience and trust

I first looked at the new Yaris and wonder if I should go for the hybrid Yaris. But wasn't happy with the gearstick. If the design was like the Auris hybrid then I would have consider it. Secondly secondly, I did see much changed from  the 2010 model I had. So it was an instant turned off.

I looked and analysed the attention to detail for the trims etc and hold my though until I compare with the Honda jazz.

When I got to the Honda dealer and looked at the Jazz and looking at the interior, seats and it's magic configuration, boots space. It seems much more better than the Yaris.

Both cars are equally reliable car  from reviewing the data from various sources.

But the Honda Jazz seems to tick all the boxes of my requirements and in additions, the built and material of the interior is much more better than the Yaris. Yaris seems to have frozen in time.

I test driven the Jazz and it seems acceptable for a "commuting to work car". I know I am not going to get the pulling power compared with the Yaris diesel. (Note, I know what the Yaris hybrid drives like advice had a courtesy car recently).

Honda seems to offer more dealerships across my region and this also ticks one of my requirements. For those wonder why I am not happy with Toyota dealer and Toyota Uk is that when I had my clutch replaced and gearbox oil changed. The dealer put in a wrong oil and caused shifting problem and they later falsified the story in collaboration with the Toyota Uk that the oil they put in was correct , just the invoice shown the wrong parts. I later had to put in the correct oil myself to correct their mistakes. Toyota dealer and it's head office is not a trustworthy to deal with. I also had poor experience from their customer service when I had the dpf problem.

So I will give Honda as a manufacturer a try, they may be worst though.

Will be picking up the Jazz next month.

The Yaris is now quite an old design, dating back to 2011, and is due for replacement, whereas the current Jazz was introduced in 2015, and has been updated for 2018 with range revisions and a new 1.5 engine.
